Large Dog Breed Health

Dog Arthritis is a common problem in large dog breeds. It's something that comes with age and can cause your dog a big amount of pain. Keeping your dog active which could just be a walk around the block everyday or a few times a day can help them with the pain of arthritis. It's important for them to have a comfortable and soft sleeping place, not just a blanket on the floor. A soft cozy spot for them to rest will help ease the pain.

There are a couple of food choices out there are made specifically for dogs with arthritis pain. These food's are not low calorie so if your dog is already over weight, it would be best to try some vitamins or supplements. Here are a couple foods out there that have a lower calorie count...
Iam's Weight Control, Science Diet Light and Natural Choice Low Calorie food. There are plenty of dog food options out there that target different needs and issues, you just have to do your research or talk to your vet.

If your dog becomes over weight, which is quite common in older large dog breeds, you must take action and control their diet more closely as this will contribute to health problems for your dog. Find a nutritional food that is low in calories and measure the correct amount daily so no free feeding. Free-feeding should never be an option for your dog no matter what size as they will keep eating if the food is left out. This is a big factor in dog obesity.
